- Cut 2 pieces of DSP or thin cardstock:
6½”x 8” – fold in half to form a 6½”x4” folded piece – this will be the box
4”x7½” – this will be the slipcover
I have not tried this with regular cardstock. I used Whisper White for this tutorial and the folded matchbox die cut had to be cut out of the cardstock in a few places. Using a shim or thinner paper would help, but I have not yet tried either.
- Figure 1 shows the Matchbox die cut using a single, unfolded piece of cardstock. For the Gift Card Box, place folded cardstock along the fold line shown in Figure 1 and run through the Big Shot with the crease pad. Unfold the box die cut and make box per instructions that come with the Matchbox die. You will end up with a crease down the center of the box, but this crease will be covered by the slipcover.
Figure 1.
You will end up with a box that will hold a gift card. Figure 2. Note that the sides of the box in Figure 2 have not yet been “taped down” or SNAILed.
Figure 2.
- Score the piece of cardstock for the slipcover at 3/4”, 3½”, 4¼”, and 7” from one end as shown in Figure 3.
Figure 3.
- Make your slipcover and finish your Gift Card Box.
